Pyrethra is a Technology Advisory and Consulting Corporation based in Toronto and Niagara Falls, Canada. We provide technology consulting and advisory services across multiple industries and develop new technology products.
We are seeking a Technology Policy Graduate to join our team and support research, analysis, and policy development at the intersection of technology, law, and public policy. As a graduate-level candidate, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals in the field of technology policy, contributing to critical research projects, policy briefs, and recommendations. This position is ideal for recent graduates or those with some experience in technology policy, public policy, or law, looking to further develop their expertise in the fast-evolving tech landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research Support: Assist in researching emerging trends and developments in technology policy, including issues related to data privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital governance, and other technology-related regulations.
- Policy Analysis: Help analyze and evaluate the impact of current and proposed policies on technology sectors, identifying key challenges and opportunities for improvement.
- Report Writing: Contribute to drafting policy reports, briefings, and white papers that clearly articulate research findings and policy recommendations to internal teams, stakeholders, and external audiences.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Assist in gathering input and feedback from stakeholders, including industry experts, policymakers, and advocacy groups, through interviews, surveys, and consultations.
- Data Collection & Synthesis: Collect and synthesize data from multiple sources such as academic research, government publications, legal texts, and industry reports to support policy analysis.
- Trend Monitoring: Track and document developments in global and regional technology policy, identifying new regulatory initiatives, standards, and best practices.
- Collaborative Support: Collaborate with other team members, including senior researchers, legal advisors, and policy analysts, to support larger projects and research initiatives.
- Presentation Preparation: Assist in preparing presentations and materials for meetings with stakeholders, conferences, or public engagements.
Qualifications:
- Education: A recent graduate (or soon-to-be graduate) with a degree in Public Policy, Technology Policy, Political Science, Law, International Relations, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus but not required.
- Knowledge: A foundational understanding of technology policy issues, including topics such as data privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital regulation, and the role of government in technology.
- Research Skills: Strong research skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, synthesizing complex information into clear and actionable insights.
- Writing Skills: Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce concise and well-structured reports, policy briefs, and presentations.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical capabilities, with attention to detail and the ability to assess the potential impact of policy changes on technology sectors.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with basic data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SPSS, or similar tools) and an ability to work with both qualitative and quantitative research.
- Communication Skills: Clear and effective verbal communication, capable of engaging with a variety of stakeholders and presenting research findings to different audiences.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, while also demonstrating initiative and independence on individual tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Internship or Research Experience: Prior internship or academic research experience in technology policy, law, or public policy is advantageous.
- Interest in Emerging Technologies: A keen interest in emerging technologies and how they intersect with government policy, privacy concerns, and societal impact.
- Familiarity with Legal and Regulatory Frameworks: Understanding of relevant technology-related legal frameworks and policies such as GDPR, CCPA, or other data protection laws is a plus.
